Gli antichi cantieri navali dell’Isola di Nantes, sulla Loira, sono un interessante esempio di archeologia industriale e l’inedito progetto urbano che li riguarda, il “Repertorio delle Grandi Macchine Spettacolari”, ha dato nuova vita a tutta l’area. Nel giro di una quindicina d’anni sarà costruito un grande parco divertimenti in cui si muoveranno queste grandiose macchine dalla forma di animali, in acciaio e legno, che potranno anche portare in giro i turisti durante le visite. Un mondo fantastico che anche Jules Verne, nato proprio nella città francese, avrebbe sicuramente trovato di proprio gusto.
The old shipyard on the island of Nantes, on the Loire, are an interesting example of industrial archeology and the unusual urban design that affects them, “Les Machines de l’Ile”, has given new life to the entire area. Within fifteen years it will be built a big amusement park in which these great machines with shapes of animals will move; they can also carry around the tourists during their visits. A fantasy world that even Jules Verne, born in the French city, would surely have found to his taste.
The Great Elephant is already running with its 12 meters high and with a 450 horsepower engine, the first actor of these robotic machines in motion: when it’s on it bellows, blowing water from its trunk and moves with great fluidity seeming almost real, it may also take 49 passengers. Then there are the manta ray, the crab, the turtle, the giant squid, terror of the seas for pirates and ships, the nautilus and many others.
The designers have done their imagination roam between the deep sea, the tops of trees and bush and then build a bestiary of animated steampunk flavored machines which would open the doors of dreams and travels to the public, giving to the island the mystery of the days when ships sailed to the far corners of the world.
