The unusual and gigantic apartment in question is located in Chelsea, a neighborhood in Manhattan and Jeremy Noritz, the owner, bought it in 2006 for $ 1.3 million.
The 1800 square meters, which make up the house, are divided into a large open space in which there are kitchen and living room, one bedroom and two bathrooms.
Noritz has recreated a functional input port similar to the one of a submarine, has positioned wooden gears, vintage armchairs with cupholders incorporated and has hung brass sculptures, small airships and old fans to the ceiling.
The focal point of the house is also a large zeppelin shot that seems to float on the ceiling, another blimp, but this time exploded, is the dominant theme of the bedroom which has, within it, a bomb-shaped device that raises and lowers the bed.
It took almost two years to transform the classic style of the apartment in that retro-futuristic steampunk but, perhaps, the conversion is only half successful, seems to have spared much time on the amount of objects rather than a true quality of them and everything seems too load and flashy.
Mr. Noritz is selling all at the modest sum of $ 1.75 million: ‘I’m going to spend much time away from New York’ he says. ‘I love my house very much, but it’s time that someone else enjoy it.’
Lo zeppelin cangiante
L’insolito e gigantesco appartamento in questione si trova a Chelsea, un quartiere di Manhattan e Jeremy Noritz, il proprietario, lo acquistò nel 2006 per 1,3 milioni di dollari.
I 1800 mq, che costituiscono l’abitazione, sono suddivisi in un grande locale aperto in cui trovano posto cucina e soggiorno, una stanza da letto e due bagni.
Noritz ha ricreato una funzionale porta di ingresso simile a quella di un sottomarino, ha posizionato ingranaggi in legno, poltrone vintage con portabicchieri incorporati ed ha appeso sculture d’ottone, piccoli dirigibili e vecchie ventole al soffitto. Il punto focale della casa è poi un grande zeppelin cangiante che sembra galleggiare sul soffitto; un altro dirigibile, ma questa volta esploso, è il motivo dominante della camera da letto che ha, al suo interno, un congegno a forma di bomba che solleva e abbassa il letto.
Ci sono voluti quasi due anni per trasformare lo stile classico dell’appartamento in quello retro-futuristico steampunk ma, forse, la conversione è riuscita solo a metà, sembra si sia badato più alla quantità degli oggetti più che ad un effettiva qualità degli stessi e della loro disposizione e il tutto sembra troppo carico e pacchiano.
Una parete di ingranaggi
Mr Noritz sta vendendo tutto alla modica cifra di 1,75 milioni dollari: “Mi trovo in procinto di passare molto tempo lontano da New York” dice. “Amo tantissimo la mia casa, ma è tempo che se la goda qualcun altro.”
